My reasons to study Engineering

Four UPM students tell us why do they choose to study Engineering at the UPM and how their degrees are changing their lives.

Showing young students the importance of engineering and its applications in our daily lives is one of the main objectives of the UPM. In order to achieve it, we have contacted to some of our students who volunteered at the First Learner of Engineer Exhibition that took place from 24th to 27th of September at the UPM. This is what they said to us.

Pedro, student at the ETSI de Topografía, Geodesia y Cartografía: “I am very happy to have chosen studying Engineering and I love my degree. I have always been interested in the areas of geopositioning and geolocalization, but studying at the UPM I have realized that my Engineering is much more than that. I really wasn´t aware of all its applications”

Lucía María, student at the ETSI Caminos: I think it’s very important that the young girls choose to study Engineering. I was the only one in my friends who choose this kind of degrees because we have the idea that this is a men´s world. That’s not true. We have to do our best and study Egineering because this area is not banned for women”.

María del Mar, student at the ETSI Agrónomos: I think that promoting Engineering is very important. There are a lot of teenagers whose potential is being wasted just because they don’t really know what these studies imply and they aren’t keen on maths, physics or tech.  It’s necessary to show them what all these subjects are used for.”

Borja, student at the ETSI de Topografía, Geodesia y Cartografía: I think that we have to do our best to show teenagers what’s engineering. When I chose my degree I did it because I wanted to know how Google Maps works. Now, I know my Engineering is much more than just that. There are many other interesting things to learn at the UPM.
