International Mention in the Doctoral Diploma

The Doctor’s Diploma may be distinguished as “International Doctor" provided that the following circumstances occur:

a)  During the training period necessary to obtain the Doctorate Degree, the candidate has completed a minimum stay of three months outside of Spain in a higher education institution or in a prestigious research center, studying or conducting  research related to their doctoral thesis topic . The stay and activities must be endorsed by the supervisor and authorized by the Doctoral Program Academic Committee, and will be incorporated into the Student’s Research Training Activities Report.

b)  Part of the doctoral thesis, at least the abstract and the conclusions, has been drafted and presented in one of the languages for scientific communication in its field of knowledge, this being different from any of the official languages in Spain. The latter requirement will not apply when the stays, reports and experts come from a Spanish-speaking country.

c)  The thesis has been informed by a minimum of two expert doctors belonging to some non-Spanish/foreign higher education institution or research center.

d)  At least one expert belonging to a non-Spanish/foreign higher education institution or research center, holding a PhD, and different from the person responsible for the stay mentioned in a), has been part of the thesis review committee. The thesis defense will be held at the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid.
