3. Presentation of annual reports

Articles 21 and 22 of the Royal Decree 1393/2007, of the 29th October, which establishes the planning of official university teaching, has modified aspects related to the PhD thesis, such as its drawing up, the authorisation of its defence, the panel of experts and its defence. In its Third Transitory Provision, it also establishes, it also establishes that those students who, on the date of this Royal Decree coming into force, have started their PhD studies and will be subject to these regulatory provisions from the year that this Royal Decree comes into force, that is the 30th October 2008.

In this context, the current specific Regulation is drawn up.

The academic commission of the PhD program must guarantee the quality of the PhD theses before their formal presentation. It is the responsibility of the said commission to ensure the continuous improvement of the final document of the PhD thesis presented by the PhD student.

It will be the responsibility of both the PhD student and the director or directors to present an annual report to the Academic Commission of the PhD program on the progress of the development of the PhD thesis and the most significant results that have been produced to date. This report will be accompanied by a receipt for the payment of the tutelage fees. The date for handing in the annual report is set out by the PhD Commission of the UPM.

The first annual report will define sufficiently the field of study (object, state of the question, methodology and sources) as well as the provisional title of the thesis.

The Academic Commission of the PhD program will send the PhD Commission of the UPM an annual report on the PhD theses in its program. The submission date for this report will be established by the PhD Commission of the UPM.

The student who does not submit an annual report without justification, or whose report has a negative evaluation from the Academic Commission of the PhD program, may be excluded from the PhD program under the process established in the PhD regulations of the UPM.
