Topography, Geodesy and Cartography

The study of Topography in Spain has its origin in the creation of the Escuela de Topografía in 1954, and accountable to the Ministry of National Education. The driving force behind the creation of this institution was the Instituto Geográfico y Catastral (Institute of Geography and Property Registration), a public body that brought about the technical training necessary for those aspiring to become civil servants in the Cuerpo Nacional de Topógrafos Ayudantes de Geografía y Catastro (National Body for Topographical Technicians for Geography and Property Registration) .

The study plan was, therefore, polarized towards the training of future civil servants. However, since its foundation, the School has begun to feel the need to adapt its teaching more and more to the requirements of the private sector.
