The objective of the wireless network is as an alternative to the connection to the cable network of the University, thus increasing mobility and access to the network from any location within the coverage area.
The current deployment has a maximum connection speed of 54 Mbps in accordance with the 802.11g standard and is also compatible with the 802.11b standard of 11Mbps. This covers the normal everyday needs of any user. It is not, however, intended to substitute the established cable network, but simply to allow a greater mobility and access to the network from the common areas (halls, classrooms, libraries, etc.)
For reason of security, the wireless network requires user authentication.
The service has been integrated into the EduRoam initiative, which has allowed the creation of a common mobility space which facilitates WIFI access to users of member organisations. The objective is for users to have an Internet connection and access to the services of the network when visiting another organisation member of the initiative, transparently and without having to change their authentication credentials.
