Barbara Liskov, doctor honoris causa by UPM

Barbara Liskov, professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, receives the honoris causa doctorate by the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid (UPM).

Considered as one of the of the world's leading authorities on computer language and system design, Barbara Liskov received the Turing award from ACM in 2009. It is considered the Nobel prize in computer science. 

The ceremony will take place on Juny, 8th, at 12.00, at the Paraninfo of the UPM. 

The event will be chaired by the rector of the university, Guillermo Cisneros. The laudatio will be pronounced by UPM profesor Marta Patiño. 

About Barbara Liskov

Barbara Liskov is Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. She receives this honorary degree not only for her excellent profesional career, but also as a pioneer researcher in a field, computer science, in which traditionally there were no women.

In 2009, she received the Turing award from ACM, considered like the Nobel prize in computer science. She was the second women to whom this award was granted and the third awarded in te whole history of this prize.

Professor Liskov is a fellow and member of the Association for Computing Machinery, a member of the IEEE, and she is also a member of the ACM Special Interest Groups on Programming Languages, Operating Systems, and Databases.

This honorary degree is included under in the celebration of the 40th anniversary of university studies in Computer Science in Spain.
