The Museum of Telecommunications at the Escuela Universitaria de Ingeniería Técnica de Telecomunicación (EUITT) of the Technical University of Madrid (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, UPM) collects and interprets of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) over the last 150 years. The museum as currently construed, originated in the 70s thanks to the effort of several professors at the EUITT, as an interpretation of the history of the telecommunications through the acquisition of different devices. There are more than 600 historical pieces such as telegraphic systems, devices for telephony, radio communication, sound and image, IT system, a variety of measuring devices, and a collection of scientific and technical books dated in the last years of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th. All this material has been catalogued and displayed in different rooms of the Centre. It is used as an educational resource for our students, exhibitions, open days for students at secondary educational levels, and as research and reference material for various publications in conferences on science and technology. Nowadays, as a further step in spreading the museum, and under funding of the Spanish Foundation for Science and Technology, we are developing a project called ?IngeniaTIC? that integrates into a Web site, the virtual museum?s collection, with the major historical and current outstanding figures and with the main technologies and innovations related to ICT | |
