Descripción
The ITER Fast Plant System Controllers (FPSC) are based on embedded technologies. The FPSC [1] will be devoted to both data acquisition tasks (sampling rates higher than 1 kHz) and control purposes (feedback loop actuators). Some of the essential requirements of these systems are: a) data acquisition and data preprocessing; b) interfacing with different networks and high speed links (Plant Operation Network, timing network based on IEEE1588, synchronous data transference and streaming/archiving networks); c) system setup and operation using EPICS [2] (Experimental Physics and Industrial Control System) process variables. CIEMAT and UPM have implemented a prototype of FPSC using a PXIe (PCI eXtension for Instrumentation) form factor. The components used in the implementation have been: a) a PXIe chassis linked to a controller. The chassis has an IEEE1588 timing card and also a FlexRIO device, based in a FPGA, with an analog data acquisition module.; b) some external computers for software development, archiving applications and CODAC Core System tools execution; c) a GPU installed in the main controller; d) an EPCIS IOC module for FPSC monitoring and control; e) different software modules running in the controller for data acquisition and data preprocessing that have been developed; f) additional software modules running on the external computers to implement archiving tasks with NETCDF-4 technology [3] (Network Common Data Form), the visualization of the archived files, finally, the EPICS clients with the state machine and monitoring/control of user interfaces. In this contribution, a complete description of the solution is presented in addition to the most relevant results of real tests, and focusing in the benefits and limitations of the applied technologies.
