The deregulation of electricity markets, among other causes, and the growing electric power generation from renewable energy sources, specially wind power in Europe, have had an significant impact on the value of Available Transfer Capacity (ATC) in the power systems. This paper aims at assessing the impact of wind power penetration on the calculation of ATC. Case studies are designed to determine the effect on ATC of: wind generation randomness, the connection bus of wind farm, the generation increase, the coordinated operation of a wind farm with a hydropower station and, finally, the kind of regulation of generating units. These study cases have been tested in the IEEE 24-bus Reliability Test System. | |
