This paper focuses on the role of business model as a source of superior performance and linking heterogeneity in firm performance to the level of flexibility a business model holds. We use a conceptualized model based on the literature analysis, to link flexibility in a business model to the determinants of performance heterogeneity. Moreover, we determine that the intangible aspects within the process of performance heterogeneity involves knowledge interaction and can be useful for firms to further enhance the use of their internal and external resources to gain superior performance in the global market place. The practicality of a conceptual study like the one we present stems from its ability to uncover drivers of the emergence and permanence of firm heterogeneity and to recognize the sometimes complex mechanisms within a firm?s business model that create reasons for firms to occupy different positions in the marketplace. | |
