Descripción
The analog beam steering devices are demanded at numerous applications, such as scanners, laser rangefinders, laser markers and many others. All of them require controllable varying of the direction of a laser beam. This function is typically, done by mechanical movement of a mirror, lens or prism where the laser beam can be deflected. This solutions suffer from such problems like limited resistance for vibrations, low speed, efficiency limited by mechanical driving elements reliability, low resistance for accelerations. Looking for the solution fulfilling specific demands we decided to prepare an optical wedge filled with (for the HeNe Laser beam) short pitch cholesteric liquid crystals of unordered structure which is apparently optically isotropic (OIChLC).
