The ESS-Bilbaofacility,hostedbytheUniversityoftheBasqueCountry(UPV/EHU),envisagesthe operation ofahigh-currentprotonacceleratordeliveringbeamswithenergiesupto50MeV.Thetime- averagedprotoncurrentwillbe2.25mA,deliveredby1.5msprotonpulseswitharepetitionrateof 20 Hz.ThisbeamwillfeedaneutronsourcebasedupontheBe(p,n)reaction,whichwillenablethe provisionofrelevantneutronexperimentationcapabilities.Theneutronsourcebaselineconceptconsists in arotatingberylliumtargetcooledbywater.Thetargetstructurewillcomprisearotatablediskmadeof 6061-T6aluminiumalloyholding20berylliumplates.Heatdissipationfromthetargetreliesupona distribution ofcoolant-flow channels.Thepracticalimplementationofsuchaconceptisheredescribed with emphasisputontheberylliumplatesthermo-mechanicaloptimization,thechosencoolant distribution systemaswellasthemechanicalbehavioroftheassembly. | |
