In this work we show that transversally limited, polarization-shaped, few-cycle pulses do not retain an invariant temporal evolution of the electric field during propagation. We distinguish two different origins of the changes in the temporal evolution of the electric field. First, Gouy?s phase due to diffraction introduces a space dependent global phase that alters the temporal trajectory of the electric field from one to another point of space without changing the time-varying polarization state. Second, diffraction introduces a space-dependent spectral filtering that may alter drastically the time-varying polarization state. | |
