Abstract
A comparative study on inorganic alignment surfaces was carried out, focusing on SiOx and SiO2. Cells were manufactured with both SiOx and SiO2 as alignment layers modifying the evaporation angle and filled with a VAN liquid crystal. Asymmetrically manufactured cells, i.e. cells where the inorganic layer is evaporated at two different angles on the two substrates, were added to the set of measurements. These asymmetric cells may contribute to solve the trade-off between contrast and response time.
