The advection-diffusion equation is solved by using a combined scheme of finite volumes and high order finite differences. A splitting method is used to decouple the advection and diffusion parts. Finite volume method based in a conservative rational interpolation is used for solving the advection term and a high order finite difference is used for solving the diffusion term. The scheme is simple, explicit and computationally fast and can be applied using splitting for two- or three-dimensional problems. We illustrate our results with an application of atmospheric dispersion. | |
