Abstract
Comparison of heat losses model of a number state-of-the-art chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactors for solar grade silicon (SoGSi) production for the photovoltaic's industry. The project raises the comparison of a number chemical vapor deposition (CVD) reactors for solar grade silicon (SoGSi) production in terms of energy consumption. Different mechanisms for heat losses exist: radiation, gases convection and conduction, chemical reactions taking place, etc. All those mechanisms of heat transfer that are responsible of the high energy consumption of CVD reactor will be modeled. At least, heat losses model for a Siemens CVD reactor and a fluidized bed reactor (FBR) will be compared. Siemens CVD model for heat losses has been already developed and validated through empirical data known from a laboratory scale Siemens type reactor at our disposal at the Instituto de Energía Solar (IES- Universidad Politécnica de Madrid). Then, in this project a novel model for heat losses of a FBR is going to be developed; on the basis on FBR technology knowledge at the Institute for Energy Technology (IFE) supported by the prototypes at IFE?s facilities. Furthermore, overall design parameters influence on the energy consumption will be studied.
