Hourly Forecasting for Solar Power Production

Abstract
This paper develops a forecasting method based on the exponential smoothing and the Expectacion-Maximization algorithm. The pro-posed algorithm is specifically designed for the forecasting of the so-lar power production, using as explanatory variable the solar radia-tion forecast from an external agent. The method is general and can be implemented in any real-time energy market. For illustrative purposes, real data from the Spanish energy market has been used to test the developed algorithm, employing the MAPE as the performance metric. Obtained results denote that the pro-posed method is both computationally efficient and numerically ac-curate.
