Abstract
This document describes the exploration experiments 2 (EE2) performed on the San Miguel ?sequence? (single frame with synthetic content). Following the description of EE2, we provide results for the existing synthesis software, namely VSRS Extended and VSRS Fast, using a 3, 5, 9, 17 and 33 view subset of all views to regenerate all remaining views by means of view synthesis. The quality comparison of synthesized views using the PSNR metric suggests that current view synthesis method implemented in VSRS is very sensitive to the distance of reference views used for view synthesis from virtual view position, cf. attached Excel sheet. New view synthesis and associated depth estimation approaches should be explored, taking all input views at once into account. Preliminary explorations of Light Field algorithms seem to provide a couple of dB improvement and better visual impression of synthesized views, though this should be further explored.
