Descripción
CaCu3Ti4O12 (CCTO) is a polycrystalline ceramic material with giant dielectric constant (up to 105) in a wide frequency range, although its current technological application is limited by its high dielectric loss. In order to reduce the dielectric losses, previously synthesized CCTO powder at 900ºC-12h is coated by sol-gel method with silica, with a content of 0.5, 1, 2.5 and 5 wt %. The joint sintering is carried out at very different temperatures (1030 and 1100 ° C) respectively. At 1030ºC, sintering takes could place in presence of the eutectic liquid that appears in the CuO-TiO2 binary system due to traces of unreacted CuO and TiO2 used as raw materials in the preparation of the CCTO. At 1100ºC sintering could takes place in the presence of the liquid eutectic formed in the CuO-SiO2 system consequence of the addition of SiO2 from the sol gel process to decrease the dielectric losses. The excess of silica gives place to a glassy intergranular insulating network between the CCTO semiconductor grains which is expected to reduce the dielectric losses. According to this, in this study we performed a structural, microstructural and dielectric characterization of CCTO previously synthesized, coated with silica by the sol-gel process and sintered in presence of different liquid phases or in solid state depending on the sintering temperature and the presence or not of unreacted raw materials such CuO and TiO2.The samples are thermal, structural and microstructural characterized by DTA-TG, XRD, SEM and Raman. The electrical characterization was performed by Impedance Spectroscopy and Conductive Atomic Force Microscopy.
