Abstract
The laser is one of the processes for surface laser hardening and it is necessary to determine its working parameters in a proper way. This document studies two simplified models described in the bibliography and develops, from them, a practical methodology to estimate operative margins of its parameters (working windows) considering a wide set of process characteristics. By using the main relationships from the models along with the characteristics of a particular material, a wide variety of characteristic diagrams is obtained, some of which are finally used to get working windows corresponding to particular requirements.
