| Most of the long haul telecommunication point to point links are formed by two transponders joined by a span. All over this span there are signal regenerators as evenly spaced as possible (Fig 1). These signal regenerators are active elements whose installation and maintenance will be quite expensive if the geography is unfavorable. Due to this, telecommunication industry has been looking for possible solution that made possible to build long haul telecommunication links without these signal regenerators. One of the techniques is to use a combination of a booster EDFA and a Raman pump (fig 2). | |
