WRF-Fire was employed to simulate spread and behavior of some real fires occurred in South-East Spain during the past summer seasons. A new custom fuel moisture content model has been developed for the Iberian Peninsula. The new module allows each time step to calculate the fuel moisture content of the dead fuels (1hr, 10hr, and 100hr) and live fuels. To create a database for "fuel category" data, Corine Land Cover 2006, 100 meters resolution, dataset have been translated from landuse to 13 fuel models of Anderson. The first meteorological domain is covering area of Iberian Peninsula with resolution of 15 Km. This domain is producing boundary and initial meteorological conditions for the inner domains. The inner domains are located in the center of the ignition points, with a resolution of 3 Km. Fire grid resolution is 20 meters. The results confirm that the use of accurate meteorological data and a custom fuel moisture content model is crucial to obtain accurate simulations of fire behavior. | |
