Descripción
Proper operation of rehabilitation and care robotic systems requires ensuring the interaction between human and robotic systems in a simple and effective way. It also requires a communication system between robots and smart environments, which allows the robot to perform the same tasks as the human user does. In the case of handicapped humans with special needs this type of interaction is particularly relevant because their cognitive abilities and mobility may be reduced. The RoboHealth_E project focuses on designing, developing and testing a symbiotic control and interaction system between humans, robotic systems and intelligent environments that enables efficient collaboration among them. This project addresses the development of human-robot and human- machine multimodal interfaces as well as a system for communication among all intelligent devices and robots in the environment. This system will consist of a set of sensors and actuators, computers and interaction devices forming an intelligent space or environment, so that the user can give orders to the robotic system in a simple, easy and effective way, acting similarly to the interaction between humans. The system will also be able to make their own decisions based on the likes and needs of the patient, or when he is not able to act by himself. The intelligent environment will be focus towards a hospital environment. The RoboHealth_E project has the following objectives: D?esigning an intelligent environment where hospitalised patients with reduced capabilities and robots can coexist. D?evelop symbiotic multimodal interfaces that allow interaction between humans, robots and intelligent environments especially suitable for patients with reduced capabilities. D?evelop intelligent and cognitive control systems for understanding, interpreting, learning and executing patient orders. D?evelop and evaluate an intelligent space functional prototype adapted to a hospital environment. To achieve these objectives low cost sensor systems (cameras, microphones, touch screens, haptic devices, etc.) will be used. Its increasing use in recent years allows the implementation of intelligent collaborative spaces at low cost and high and simple interaction capabilities. Gesture and voice recognition systems will also be used as simple and effective interaction ways, especially for patients with reduced capabilities. To this end, existing systems will be adapted to the needs of the project and new software agents will be developed for fusion and interpretation of information from the sensory systems that enable efficient interaction without requiring humans to learn complex processes to input commands. The project will use existing building automation systems based on wireless sensors and actuators networks that will be adapted to the hospital environment and integrated into an ambient intelligence interactive system. The multidisciplinary project team consists of robotics and interfaces industrial engineers experts, and telecommunication engineers with extensive experience in home and building automation systems. The team has taken part and is taking part in international and national R&D projects.
