The fast development of microwave and millimetre wave monolithic integrated circuits (MMIC), and the possibility to connect them to fast digital signal processors, allowed active and adaptive antennas array development. These techniques were limited in the past to military applications but now are available to many civil system designs. In many projects the final design is still too expensive to be competitive with the traditional mechanically controlled reflector antennas. Anyway the tendency is clear and the establishment of these techniques in few years will depend only on the electronic components cost political control inside the microelectronic civil market. In this paper we present some achievements in the design of active and adaptive antennas in the microwave an millimetrewave bands. The most important applications appear in the satellite communications and radar systems. Finally we do a bet to the continuous establishment of these antennas in more and more popular systems | |
