The Osteogenesis Imperfecta (OI) is a genetic disorder classified as ?rare disease? due to the very low rates of affected population (1 per 20.000 live births). This disease is characterized by increased bone fragility and it is commonly known as ?brittle-bone? disease. Currently, people affected by OI need to travel and they are forced to use non-adapted child restraint systems (CRS); to adapt their vehicle to their common transport wheelchairs; or even, to use self-manufactured devices which do not provide any restraint in case of a traffic accident. The main objective of this article is to evaluate with sled tests the safety performance of CRS recommended by OI associations or approved CRS as ?Special Needs Restraint? developed for people with disabilities. | |
