The tropical forests are under continuous change, mainly due to deforestation, which has been occurring in order to fulfill human needs (Wright 2010; Wunder 2001). The consequences of such deforestation are devastating; they include the decrease in evapo-transpiration, the increase in runoff, and the extinction of plant and animal species (Lindsey 2007; Swann et al., 2015). The impact of land use/land cover (LULC) change affects global climate and hence its ecological services. Multi-scale LULC detection, applying up-to-date remote sensing classification techniques, plays a crucial role in the analysis of livestock-ecosystem transformation. This research presents a free open source (FOS), multi-scale, remote sensing-based proposal for the feasible monitoring of traditional silvopastoral systems (TSPS) New earth-observing missions, especially the EU (European Union) Sentinel mission, follow the paradigm of a fully open data policy. This openness and the high grade of maturity reached by FOS image processing software packages and libraries are the cornerstones of the proposed research scheme. | |
