Poly(lactic acid) (PLA) is a very important bioplastic. Until now, the management of PLA waste has not been considered as a problem, due to the moderate usage of this polymer, and because it is considered biodegradable and compostable. However, it is expected that the volume of PLA wastes to increase in the following years, and furthermore, most of commercial PLA grades can not be considered as compostable. This work analyses the current alternatives for the management of PLA wastes, especially the mechanical recycling. To that end, it is important to compare the properties of the virgin and recycled material. In this work we analyze the effect of the mechanical recycling and washing on the optical and mechanical properties, and on the intrinsic viscosity of PLA and some of its nanocomposites. | |
