This communication aims to shed some light on the different criteria that can useful to select Spanish formal neologisms to be included in dictionaries. Our departing point are the more than 3000 neologisms collected from written press in the last 8 years by our research group, Neousal, which we want to structure and organize into a dictionary of neologisms. We have used group of dictionaries as a filter and that way, we have listed out all the lexical units not supposed to be new. Even if this lexicographical criterium has proved to be objective and systematic, narrowing down considerably the lists of candidate neologisms, has not proved to be sufficient. It is necessary, in consequence, to think of other neological features that could be taken into account when setting a neologism-detection process aiming to set up a dictionary. Our hypothesis is that the combination of other elements, such as frequence of use, novelty formal consistency or motivation may help us design a new protocol for the introduction of candidate neologisms in our dictionary of neologisms and, at the same time, will allow us to tackle some of the most relevant features characterizing neologisms, beyond the lexicographical factor. | |
