| Sustainability cannot be secured without a joint effort. From cleaner production to responsible sourcing and conscious consumption, a long-term perspective should be embarked. Accordingly, it is timely to interrogate to what extent luxury fashion could inquire more sustainable solutions and embrace sustainability. Luxury fashion could inspire and pursue quality, longevity and exclusivity in order to go confidentially towards achieving sustainability. Luxury could afford to confront the biggest sustainability challenges, to start over and deliver a transformation within the industry. In this vein, this chapter examines how sustainable luxury could lead to a reduction in resource consumption while authentically improving quality, and durability. Given that what a luxury brand does today will be part of its heritage in fifty years, sustainability is becoming as equally important as the heritage. To this end, this chapter introduces sustainability and fashion paradox. It further investigates how a vicious cycle of Desire ? Speed ? Consume ? Dispose could be positively changed through luxury. Thus, this study brings a novel perspective by explaining the degree to which luxury fashion could indeed have a positive impact on sustainability through craftsmanship, heritage and artisan skills. | |
