We have deeply characterized the thermal behaviour of Permalloy nanostripes subjected to current pulses, and we pointed out the convenience of finding a substrate material which is a good thermal conductor but an electrical insulator. Sapphire arises as a good candidate, since it has a very good thermal conductivity (25 times higher than SiO2). Unfortunately, nanolithography processing over Sapphire substrates constitutes a challenge, since its high insulating capacity and its high thermal expansion coefficient, which become every processing step very sensitive to temperature changes. We have developed a processing method for the nanofabrication of nanostripes by e-beam means which overcomes these features and therefore optimizes the dispositives performance. We will show how substantially the different temperature conditions change the performance of our nanostripe and how the election of a sapphire substrate can merge as an alternative to common Silicon substrates | |
