The paper indicates the result of a study carried out of a sample of 186 Spanish pharmaceutical companies, which were asked about the Competitive Intelligence (CI) process carried out within their organization. The questionnaires show that there are two distinct groups within the sector. The most statistically significant result obtained relates to the difference in the development of the programming, implementation and use of CI. One of the groups is seen to be more interested in CI activities and information management than the other. As such, in the medium to long-term, there is a risk that the sector divides itself into a two-speed grouping of companies - depending on their approach to competitiveness and innovation in the pharmaceutical sector. The three-layer model (M3C) of CI has been used for the basis on this analysis. | |
