Descripción
In the recent years, the European Council is boost-ing buildings that provide a high-quality interior en-vironment with the least energy consumption. Starting from a glazed office building in Milan (It-aly), the aim of this paper is to: a) Elect the most energy-efficient heating, venti-lation and air conditioning system (HVAC) and dimension it according to the building?s construction technology and Milan?s climate. b) Assess the indoor thermal comfort in a storey plan through a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software evaluating: indoor air temper-ature, air velocity, mean age of air and in-dexes of thermal comfort of the Normative UNE-EN ISO 7730:2006. Active chilled beams (ACBs) turn out to be the most energy-efficient HVAC terminal system. In an ACB, the primary air, provided by an external air handling unit (AHU), enters the zone at a high velocity through nozzles and induces room air that cools down as it passes through the ACB?s cooling coil. The mixed air is then discharged into the room. The analysis shows: ? Temperature inside the comfort boundaries and its spatial profile close to the ideal one. ? High mean age of air in winter with minimum air-change-rate. ? Draughts with high inlet flowrates in summer. Key words: active chilled beams, energy-saving, thermal comfort, indoor air quality
