Industrial symbiosis is a model for systemic transitions of industrial production systems into more sustainable forms, for example in terms of reduced waste, increased efficiency, less usage of resources, and eco-innovative products and services, etc. However, the related literature has not given explicit interest in its systemic nature, instead, it mostly has treated industrial symbiosis as a technical construct drawing upon the traditional definition underlining the ?physical exchange of materials, energy, water and by-products? (Chertow 2000), which mostly results in incremental improvements in production. | |
