This work presents the development of of a machine tool to be used in a single point microcutting process. This machine tool is composed by a 3-PRS parallel mechanismtha positions the cutting tool in the Euler angles ? ,? and the Cartesian Z position. Since to define a point P into space completely is necesary provide its 6 variables Px, Py, Pz, ?, ?, ?, this machine tool use a linear XY table to provide the 2-DOF in X and Y that the parallel mechanism can't, the P point to be defined is the tool tip end. Because of the single point cutting process is necesary to be able of rotate the cutting tool along its longitudinal axis to maintain the cutting edge always oriented in the feed direction. In summary, the developed machine tool has 6 DOF that fulfill the requirements of the process. The behavior of the machine tool is analyzed using a Simulink® model and is compared with experimental results. The model considersthe mechanicla properties of the joints, stiffness and damping. The developed machine tool has its main application in the machining of small parts. | |
