Design thinking is a method for practical creative resolution of problems. It is a form of solutionbased thinking with the intent of producing a constructive future result. Design thinking differs from scientific method by including consideration of the emotional content of the situation. The subject of Environmental Engineering of the Master in Environmental Engineering (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain) is a good opportunity for the introduction of students in the design thinking strategies. Firstly, professors explain to the students the environmental implications of production and biochar use on carbon sequestration and secondly, students are encouraged to display their ideas about soil C sequestration and CO2 emission calculation. This strategy is developed during an incubation experiment of several months where students measure soil CO2 emissions and different soil properties. Finally, students use different models to model CO2 emissions at different temporal horizons. | |
