The project is addressing the problem of the development of virus disease and the emergence of new virus diseases on horticultural crops in the Mediterranean region. Therefore, a transnational consortium incorporating 12 research groups from 5 EU and 4 non-EU Mediterranean Basin (MB) countries has been collaborated. One private company providing services for agriculture, including pathogen detection and diagnosis, will be involved. The participation of these partners will facilitate collections field data and will ensure transfer of the developed capabilities to the productive sectors. In addition, the gained results through the interaction among the involved research groups, will allow undertaken new research avenues that have not been approached previously within the field of plant virology. The research groups, to fulfill their goal, will use novel approaches in terms of technological innovation to study the interactions between plant viruses, their hosts and vectors and multivariate statistical analyses of the emergence risk over a range of the ecological conditions. The research groups are highly experienced plant virologist, plant breeders, technology transfer personnel, bioinformatics, and intellectual property rights. They have the capacity to work together in a harmonized fashion. | |
