A difunctional UV-curable cycloaliphatic epoxy resin (3,4-epoxycyclohexylmethyl-3,4-epoxycyclohexane carboxylate) was used: as precursor of the polymer matrix. The resin was photopolymerized in the presence of triarylsulfonium hexafluoroantimoniate salts (cationic photoinitiator). Different amounts of photoiniciator were used (2-3%). The dispersion of NB in the epoxy resin was produced by sonication. The epoxy conversion (EGC) was determined at seven temperatures, from 30ºC to 90ºC. Lower photocuring rates and lower conversion degrees were obtained for dispersions having 5wt% of BN, compared to the neat epoxy system. However the thermal curing was less affected by the presence of BN. After UV irradiation (40ºC, 7 min) the EGC increases and reaches 70% conversion after 29 days at 40ºC (dark curing), but in the presence of BN, the EGC only reaches 60%. BN nanoparticles do not modified significantly the Tg of the epoxy thermoset. | |
