| our hypothesis is that the use of the rrbNGF can provide a response to the question about the mechanism of action of seminal plasma in rabbit ovulation process and to the local role of bNGF. In practical terms, this rrbNGF can be an alternative to the current methods of rabbit ovulation induction, as well as an ideal candidate to improve IVP systems in rabbit and in other species. Therefore, our general objective is to optimize the reproductive standards in rabbits using strategies focused to enhance the productivity and welfare of animals and to reduce handling time for the breeders. It will lead to obtaining quality animals in a more sustainable management system. Then, in in vivo studies, our goal will be to study the way to add the rrbNGF in the seminal dose to achieve successful ovulation rates in AI process, thus becoming an alternative to the i.m. injection of GnRH analogues in the rabbit farms. We will also characterize the effects of rrbNGF on sperm, oocyte and embryo development that can be affecting fertility and prolificacy as well as the offspring development. In parallel, in vitro studies will be used to elucidate the mechanisms by which rrbNGF acts on ovulation process and oocyte competence as well as an additive in the medium for rabbit IVP. The general goal mentioned above will be carried out through two main objectives: Objective 1: Characterization of recombinant rabbit NGF to use in the seminal dose and elucidation of the response mechanism in inseminated rabbits. Objective 2: Study of the local activity and physiological function of rrbNGF on oocyte competence and embryo development in vivo and in vitro and its effect on the fertility rate and in the offspring. These objectives will be accomplished by both subprojects in a coordinated way. | |
