Research and development in energy harvesting using PZT piezoelectric ceramic materials has been applied in recent years to road traffic environments [1 - 4]. Due to environment concerns and the European Union directive RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) that restricts the use of lead, mercury, cadmium, chromium (VI), polybrominated biphenyl (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ether (PBDE), the need for lead-free solutions is receiving increasing attention. The practical tests are performed with the patented [5] computer controlled test bench [6]. This virtual instrument [7] has a road traffic simulator unit, a data acquisition system to measure the electrical signals and power harvested and an energy harvesting hardware. The electrical signals and the power harvested in each individual test are stored and analysed to obtain a new prospective in energy harvesting using Lead-Free piezoelectric ceramics. | |
