This study emerged as a response to the schedule of the Ministry of Public Works for the implementation of the BIM methodology in Spain. Such schedule is based on three stages. From March 2018 BIM was recommended for public biddings projects, from December 2018 BIM was mandatory in public biddings and in mid-2019 it will be mandatory in public infrastructure projects. BIM Civil engineering, although it is close to its implementation, there is still no clear route for its application within companies. The universities, for their part, have not yet introduced in the syllabus the study of this methodology. The academic training of professionals remains as an activity outside the university, according to the importance individually given to the topic. The aim of this article is to acknowledge the current state of BIM methodology, the experiences of other countries, that have already implemented the use of BIM in Infrastructure. Hence, the legal framework proposed for implementation in Spain has been analysed. In addition, a procedure to apply this methodology in the business framework in an efficient manner in the stipulated period is proposed.
