The lumped parameter approach has some built-in limitations with acoustic frequency and physical dimensions and may not be valid for higher frequencies where the acoustic wavelength is in the range of the narrow tube dimensions. Besides, when sound is propagated through narrow tubes or in small cavities or over sharp corner, the losses become noticeable because of the thermal and viscous effects appearing. All these effects can not be modelled by means of the classical lumped elements model approach so, new more complex and accurate acoustic models need to be proposed for taking into account these thermo-viscous effects, which are required for obtaining realistic results. Both kind of losses can be simulated by means of LMS virtual lab acoustic software. The finite element modelling can provide much more detailed information about the physical phenomena produced inside narrow tubes, obtaining pressure distribution map, so applying definition z=p/Sv, acoustic impedance narrow tube is well known and trustable. | |
