| Three full-scale steel silos with different hopper eccentricities (0%, 50% y 100%) have been instrumented to obtain pressures distributions exerted by two types of stored materials: wheat and maize. Regarding the instrumentation, normal pressure and shear cells have been evaluated considering local imperfections and the interaction between the stored material and the silo wall. Furthermore, a calibration chamber has been designed and manufactured to calibrate the pressure cells. Regarding the tests carried out, normal pressures exerted by wheat and maize along one generatrix of the silo with concentric hopper during filling, storage and discharge as well as normal pressures around the silo wall of the three full-scale silos with different hopper eccentricity have been carried out. The experimental results have been compared with the pressure distributions applying the Eurocode. The interpretation of the results contribute to the understanding of the phenomena that frequently occur in the interior of this type of structures: oscillations of the load, changes in the type of flow of the material and concentrated loads detected at different levels of the silo during discharge. | |
