We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel scheme for the shaping of optical pulses, based on spectral lineby- line adjustment of a frequency comb generated by a Mode Locked Laser. To avoid the use of bulk optics, the desired modification of the frequency spectrum of the optical signal is performed in the time domain. However, the use of the temporal self-imaging (Talbot) effect allows us to employ slow electrooptical modulators and a single chromatic dispersion stage, resulting in a simpler set-up compared to conventional temporal optical shapers. The technique is illustrated by experimentally generating a flat-top pulse and a pulse repetition rate multiplier | |
