In this paper the main features ofthe Construetion projeet ofthe widening ofLos Santos Bridge are dlseussed. The projeet involves the widening of a major 600 m long bridge with spans of 150 meters inereasing the width ofthe deek from 12.00 to 24.00 meters, without reeurring to an independent strueture. The projeet is based on the idea of providing minimum strengthening of the existing strueture. This approaeh has allowed very important savings but has also required a challenging design projeet sorne aspects of whieh are discussed in this paper.
