Datos
Descripción
Over the last decades, a great research effort has been done on bioengineering and health technologies with the challenge to look for short-term ¿technological solutions¿ in diabetes. Nowadays, the increase on reliability and availability of continuous glucose monitoring systems, programmable insulin pumps and the good clinical results of telemedicine provide a new clinical scenario in the control of a complex pathology as Type 1 diabetes, with the final goal of improving the quality of metabolic control and quality of life of diabetic people. This project aims to research on the continuous monitoring of physiological parameters for metabolic control, such as interstitial glucose and physical activity, as a basis of new analysis and visualization procedures to build new medical knowledge on diabetes follow up and therapeutic control. The implementation and validation of these new tools will be approached by integrating them into an existing telemedicine system working in clinical routine and developed by the research team. This project proposal yields on the work done by the multidisciplinar researchers team (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid y Hospital San Pau de Barcelona) on previous projects such as DIABTel (SAF98-0170, 1998-2000), the European Project ¿INCA: Intelligent Control Assistant for Diabetes¿ (IST- 2001-37632, 2003-2005), scientifically directed by the proposers, and ¿PARIS: Páncreas Artificial Telemédico Inteligente¿ project (FIS- PI042466).
