| This chapter provides an in-depth introduction to database replication, in particular to the execution of transactions on top of a replicated database. It follows a two-level approach to introduce replication protocols and to illustrate the design alternatives when developing a replication solution. Firstly, replication protocols are categorized by only two parameters. Then, we present a simple example protocol for each of the resulting categories. From there, further parameters are introduced, illustrating their influence along the given replication protocols and some deviates. | |
