Mechanical properties assesment of structural coniferous timber by means of parallel and perpendicular to the grain wave velocity

Abstract
In this research paper the wave velocity in a total amount of 180 structural pieces of three different cross-sections (150 x 200 mm, 150 x 250 mm and 200 x 250 mm) and species (radiata pine (Pinus radiata D. Don.), Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) and Laricio pine (Pinus nigra Arn. Ssp. salzmannii)) was measured parallel and perpendicular to the grain. Furthermore, the specimens were tested for bending to compare the mechanical properties obtained with the results of non-destructive measurements estimated by the use of two different portable items of equipment. To conclude, prediction equations of the properties of timber and differences between the results of different equipment are shown.
