Currently, Epizootic Rabbit Enteropathy (ERE) is deemed the major disease affecting intensive European farm. The concentration of Clostridium perfringens in digestive contents of young rabbits has been shown to be highly correlated with average diarrhea mortality in the fattening period. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the effect of ERE on production performance in young rabbits by means of C. perfringens enumeration in soft faeces. It has been observed that counts are significantly higher around ten days after weaning, irrespective of the age at which rabbits were weaned. Furthermore, this work shows that high counts of C. perfringens and the appearance of clinical signs of ERE reduced bodyweight at slaughter and led to a heterogeneity of weights due to the presence of morbid animals. | |
