The paper discusses imperfections in precast concrete structural elements that fail to meet quality standards or are flawed in ways not normally addressed in technical codes. It aims to establish general rules for treating any type of imperfection in structural elements. Reference is made to the standards applicable to each case and where none is directly applicable, criteria are provided on how to treat the imperfection in question. Chapter 5 of the paper lists structural elements by their possible flaws, specifying how they should be handled and their possible effects. The review is essentially intended to pave the way for both production- and acceptance-side establishment of routine procedures for handling defects in precast concrete elements. Imperfections such as certain types of tolerance or dimensional deviations often have no effect on quality. Elements should not be rejected straightaway; rather, any such decision should be made after studying the relevance of the imperfection to ascertain its possible impact. | |
