It is usually not very convenient to use real robots for software development, testing and evaluation. Having access to a good simulator allows researchers to recreate special experimental conditions and gain increased flexibility and reliability, saving a lot of time. In the 3D mapping context specific issues arise. Here we describe and compare our experiences in this area with a real robot and with the Unified System for Automation and Robot Simulation (USARSim). | |
